Allen has best day yet as Bills end minicamp

The Bills’ offense ended their three-day mandatory minicamp on one of the highest notes they could.  Rookie quarterback Josh Allen fired a post pattern about 25 yards downfield to rookie wide receiver Austin Proehl, who took the ball the rest of the way untouched for a touchdown.  The pass, catch, and run covered about 70 yards total.  After the play, the rest of the offense ran onto the field cheering and giving chest bumps to Allen, who clearly had his best day of the week.

That pass wasn’t the only one that stood out for Allen on Thursday.  For most of the practice, he was on-target and sharp, including an opening two-minute session that had the third-team offense going against mostly second-string defenders.  On that drive, going against a stiff wind, Allen completed six of seven passes, several of which were rifled in with the type of zip Allen has been advertised to have.  It culminated with a short completion to another rookie, Ray-Ray McCloud, who caught it around the numbers going towards the sideline.  McCloud then made a terrific move when he stopped on a dime and turned inside, turning around rookie cornerback Taron Johnson.  McCloud walked into the end zone.

For the most part, the starters stood on the sidelines for any offense vs. defense work.  The second and third-units seemed to get almost all of the reps, although all three quarterbacks rotated again.

Here’s a look at some of the action on Thursday:
