Arbitrator awards $2M contract to Evan Rodrigues

After going to arbitration, Evan Rodrigues is now under contract with the Sabres on a one year deal, worth $2 million. The decision comes from an independent arbitrator.

That salary falls in between the reported asks of the team and player. Sportnet's Elliotte Friedman had reported that the Sabres were looking for $1.5 million per year, while Rodrigues was looking to get $2.65 million per year.

Rodrigues will be a very affordable contract for the Sabres. He's now the eight highest paid forward on the team. A relative bargain given his role and versatility.

Last season Rodrigues had 29 points playing all over the lineup. A natural winger, Rodrigues was forced to play a lot at center because of the Sabres lack of depth. He also plays plenty of penalty kill and powerplay.

Rodrigues also played an important role on the Sabre powerplay, as the offensive zone entry man on the second unit. Going forward, Marcus Johansson will likely take on that role.
