GAMEDAY - Bills trail Jets 6-0 after first quarter

September 08, 2019 - 1:43 pm

The 2019 NFL season is underway for the Buffalo Bills, who are on the road in East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the New York Jets.

However, Buffalo would've liked a better start, as turnovers came early and often for the Bills offense. Buffalo trails the Jets, 6-0, after the first quarter.

The Bills offense got started, with the first series going to Josh Allen and company coming out throwing to start the game. The offense's first drive saw Allen go 5-of-6 for 44 yards, but the drive was halted after tackle Dion Dawkins was beaten by Jets linebacker Jordan Jenkins, who forced a fumble on Allen. The Jets recovered the fumble and took over on offense, but went three-and-out on their opening drive. But the turnovers reared their ugly head once again, as Allen's pass for Cole Beasley bounced off the receiver's hands and was returned for a touchdown by Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley.

The Bills offense continued its pass happy attack, with zero running plays called in their first three drives. Allen has the only rushing attempts after three drives, all four of his carries on scrambles on passing plays. However, Buffalo's third drive saw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Jon Feliciano push the Bills out of field goal range, forcing Buffalo to punt.

Buffalo's defense continued to hold strong, holding the Jets offense to just 36 total yards in the opening quarter.
