Gameday: Sabres lead Montreal 1-0 after one

November 23, 2018 - 4:09 pm

Casey Mittelstadt capitalized on a rebound chance partway through the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead over the Montreal Canadiens.

The goal came on Buffalo's eighth shot of the period, and was a second chance opportunity after the inital shot hit off of the post and came to the young winger with a wide open net in front of him. Conor Sheary and Jake McCabe assisted on the game's first score.

David Schlemko was called for the game's first penalty. The defenseman was penalized for holding after taking out Kyle Okposo in the offensive zone. The blue and gold failed to score before the end of the period, with 19 seconds of carry over power play time left to start the middle stanza.

Carter Hutton stopped all eight Canadiens' shots on goal, while Buffalo scored once on 12 shots.
