Gamenight: Sabres trail Montreal 1-0 in second period

October 25, 2018 - 7:07 pm

Max Domi opened the scoring just over a minute into the game to give the Montreal Canadiens a 1-0 lead over Buffalo in the first period.

Domi scored on a wrist shot after he collected the puck in the offensive zone thanks to a Buffalo turnover. Artturi Lehkonen originally stole the puck away from the blue and gold, and was credited with the lone assist for his efforts.

Two minutes later Rasmus Ristolainen was called for interference, and the first penalty of the night. The Sabres were able to kill off the minor penalty, despite the Canadiens having several shots and chances.

Buffalo outshot the Canadiens 13-9 in the opening twenty minutes, but Antti Niemi was able to stop all 13 Sabres' shots. At the other end, Carter Hutton stopped eight of the first nine Montreal shots on goal.
