Jaguars at Bills: Sal's keys, notes and stats

Here are three key storylines to follow as the Bills and Jaguars get set to play at New Era Field Sunday afternoon:

1. Allen The Man…..Again

It appears all systems are set to “Go!” For Josh Allen’s return as the Bills’ starting quarterback.  The rookie has missed the team’s last four games after injuring his elbow over a month ago against the Houston Texans.  Despite Matt Barkley’s positive performance and win before the bye two weeks ago at the New York Jets, head coach Sean McDermott has stated Allen is the Bills’ starter as long as he got through the week with no setbacks.  After Allen was a full participant every day at practice and did not appear on the week’s final official injury report, that looks like it’s the case.

2. The Need for Speed

Coinciding with Allen’s return is the addition of more speed to the Bills’ offense.  Wide receivers Isaiah McKenzie and Robert Foster both had big roles in the team’s 41-10 win over the Jets, then they went out and signed wideout Deonte Thompson for his third stint with the club.  All will give Allen speed to work with down the field, as well as more options for offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s play-calling.

3. The Return of Marrone

Doug Marrone returns to New Era Field as a head coach for the first time since opting out of his Bills’ contract at the end of the 2014 season (he was a Jags’ assistant when they played in Buffalo in 2016).  He told the Jacksonville media this week that he expects to hear boos from the Buffalo faithful, but that thats’s commonplace no matter what opposing stadium he goes to.  He also had complimentary things to say about Bills’ fans, the organization, current owners Terry and Kim Pegula, as well as late-owner Ralph Wilson.  Right now, Marrone has far more things to worry about than how Bills’ fans will treat him, including possibly his own job security.  His team is 3-7, just like the Bills, and are widely considered one of the most underachieving teams in the NFL this season.
