The Buffalo Sabres were throttled by the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon; 3-0 inside the Pepsi Center.  Buffalo goaltender Carter Hutton made 40 saves on 42 shots, but was hung out to dry by his offense.  The Sabres mustered just 18 shots all game, including just seven through 40 minutes of play.  Philipp Grubauer finished the shutout for the Avalanche in fairly easy fashion as the blue and gold's road winless streak trudged on another day.

Let's head inside the locker room to see what Jack Eichel, Jeff Skinner, Sam Reinhart and Phil Housley had to say after the blanking.

Jack Eichel:

On the effort: "They outworked us. They were more desperate than we were. I'm not sure if there's any desperation left."

His hit on Carl Soderberg: "I'm trying to protect myself - it's a physical game. It seemed like they were taking runs at us at times. If I gotta give it back, I gotta give it back."

Jeff Skinner:

Lack of adjustment: "You try to make adjustments and try to find ways to get in.  We didn't do a good enough job with that and as a result we were defending the entire game."

Responding to Nikita Zadorov's hit on Eichel: "I was skating and didn't really like the hit - no one did.  We went over there and there was a scrum.  I didn't really like it.  We need to have a better response to physical play."

Sam Reinhart:

On his breakaway: "I think if I just hold onto that puck another foot, I've got an open chance.  It's frustrating now, been a couple games since I've scored.  Gotta settle back down and get back to my game."

Chances come one at a time: "We saw it in Chicago too.  When we get the puck in deep and get on it, we let them off the hook too easy.  We get one chance and then we're back to the back-check.  It's frustrating.  Everyone should be embarrassed at this point."

Was Zadorov's hit late?: "For sure.  I'm trying to get over there fast as I can.  The whistle clearly goes.  Trying to get as many shots on him as I can at that point."

Phil Housley:

In their faces: "The game turned right back on us all afternoon.  It was more about what we weren't doing."

One man bearing a lot of weight: "We're counting on our goaltender too much.  He bailed us out time and time again.  I think it was a lack of execution."

Worried about Eichel suspension?: "I'm not concerned at all.  The first call against Zadorov was a hit to the head and we came out of it with just a two-minute powerplay."
