Though Buffalo Sabres' All-Star forward Jeff Skinner scored in his return to Raleigh, North Carolina, the blue and gold were dropped 4-3 by those Carolina Hurricanes.  Three of the seven total goals were scored in a span of 1:12 in the second period; a pair from the Hurricanes (Justin Williams, Sebastian Aho) and one from the Sabres (Jason Pominville).  Pominville's goal was his first since November 17, 2018; a game-winning tally against the Minnesota Wild.

Let's go inside the locker room to hear from Pominville, Skinner, Jack Eichel and Phil Housley following the loss.

Jason Pominville:

On the effort: "Tough breaks for sure. They're a part of the game. We still gave up too much. I think we have to clean up defensively to win games more consistently."

What the offense could've done more of: "We have to get to the net a bit more. That's what [Carolina] did; they got pucks towards [Carter] Hutton's feet."

Jeff Skinner:

On returning to Raleigh: "Definitely felt an adrenalin rush those first few shifts, but I settled in towards the end of the first period."

On the video tribute and fan support: "It's a good feeling. It summarized my time there. I had a good time as a player there, and in the community too."

On scoring his 30th goal: "It's nice to contribute and get an early powerplay tally there. We can hopefully build off that going forward."

Jack Eichel:

On the bouncing puck: "Bad bounces are going to happen. We've been on the other side of that this year too. Sometimes, you have to make your own breaks."

Reset button: "We have a tough one tomorrow, so we have to forget this one and move on. We've got the best team in the league waiting for us."

Phil Housley:

On the effort: "We were a little bit too loose. Every shift matters and every play matters at this point. We gave up way too many odd-man rushes. I liked our attitude better in the third period, but it was too little, too late."

On Tage Thompson being taken off the top line: "He looked good in practice, but I didn't feel like they were gelling tonight. That's why we made the switch. Didn't feel like they were generating."

Head in the game: "We have to realize that there are going to be tight games. We have to stay the course and try not to get away from our style of game."
