From the Locker Room: Sabres-Rangers

The Buffalo Sabres bounced back from Thursday night's shutout loss to tbe Boston Bruins a positive way.

The blue and gold beat the New York Rangers on Saturday night, 3-1, thanks to Conor Sheary's first two goals as a Buffalo Sabre. Play improved in most facets of the game, and Carter Hutton looked very strong between the pipes.

Let's go inside the locker room to hear from Sheary, Jack Eichel, Hutton and Phil Housley following the victory.

Conor Sheary:

Rebound: "We knew this was an important one. We kind of got spanked in our home opener. It was good to get a couple tonight and get the win."

On netting a pair of goals: "It's been a while since I scored, goes back way into last year. Definitely nice to get the first one with a new team as well."

Confidence: "We knew we were getting some good chances. If we continued to play the right way, we'd get those opportunities and bury them."

Jack Eichel:

Stepping stone: "It's great to get a win on home ice. There's a lot of things we want to clean up, but this is a start. Our goalie was our best player tonight, and sometimes that has to be the case. [Hutton] was tremendous."

Complete effort: "I thought we stuck with it as a group really well. We were desperate and competed hard."

On the team's perseverance: "Credit to us; we stuck with it and won some battles with some tired power play and penalty kill units. We dug deep and battled."

Carter Hutton:

On his save against a 3-on-0: "I don't know if I can say exactly what was going through my head there. They may have made one too many passes and it gave me a chance to stick with it, but definitely was still wild."

On the opposing goaltender: "Facing [Henrik] Lundqvist is always a fun battle. It makes me step up my game. I try to keep things simple when we play New York, truthfully."

Fun for all: "I thought it was a great hockey game. Both teams battled right up until the end. I'm sure everyone enjoyed it."

Phil Housley:

Skinner making an impression: "Jeff Skinner look possessed out there. He was all over the ice all night."

Baby steps: "We're learning to win. We have a lot of nwe players getting used to each other. We've barely had our entire team together for a week now. We found a way to win above it all though, and I'm happy for our guys."

On Hutton's incredible save: "We like our defense joining the rush, but not exactly that recklessly. Carter picked us up, though, and the bench got a huge boost the rest of the way."
