McDermott - The Super Bowl, not the playoffs, is the ultimate goal

July 27, 2018 - 4:47 pm

Two practices in the books at St. John Fisher for Buffalo Bills training camp. Josh Allen, A.J. McCarron, and Nathan Peterman have all spent time working with the starters. Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined Schopp & the Bulldog after Friday's practice. Here's some of the best from his time with the guys.

On Josh Allen potentially being the starter:
"I'm not opposed to him winning the job at all... It's an open competition. Josh is playing with the threes right now, some time with the ones."

On the value of making the playoffs:
"We made the playoffs last year, that's not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl. We have to continue to sharpen the sword to get to that goal."

On getting the players to buy in:
"There is a buy in that's important. For a new coach, new teacher, new whatever. Winning early was big, starting off 5-2. At the end of the day, you hope the buy in comes."

On the leadership of his team:
"There's some value in playoff experience. The core guys we did bring back have that playoff experience. We can take something out of that."
