The Buffalo Bills are off to their best start to a season since 1996 at 8-3 through the first 11 games of the 2019 season.

The team is currently sitting in the first Wild Card spot in the AFC standings, and has a full two-game advantage on the teams behind them at 6-5.

However, Buffalo is about to hit the most difficult part of their schedule over the next four games, starting this Thursday with a Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The Bills will then host the Baltimore Ravens (9-2) at New Era Field in Week 14, followed by two road matchups against the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) and the New England Patriots (10-1).

The Bills are appearing in their first Thanksgiving Day game since the 1994 season when the team faced the Detroit Lions in a 35-21 loss at the old Pontiac Silverdome.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined Howard Simon and Jeremy White on Wednesday morning for his weekly appearance on WGR.

Here is some of what he had to say:

McDermott on preparations for Thursday's game in Dallas:

"We tried to stay with our routines, albeit it was a shorter week, and just make sure we handled as many of the boulders as we could so that our players can go down there to Dallas, understand the gameplan, and play fast with great clarity about what we're trying to get done."

McDermott on getting the players proper recovery before Thursday's game:

"It's about energy, and in order to have energy you have to be rested. Then it's about execution, so we try to use that formula the last couple of weeks as we head down the stretch, and also this week as we head to Dallas on a short week."

McDermott on Cody Ford's performance against Denver last week:

"Certainly there's plays that he'd like to have back, but overall, for a young player to go out there and do what he was able to do and execute his technique against that type of skill was impressive. The challenge this week [with the Cowboys is] they've got multiple edge rushers. They have [DeMarcus] Lawrence, and then they go out and signed Robert Quinn, and then they brought in [Michael] Bennett at the trade deadline. A very, very dangerous pass rush crew right there."

McDermott on Josh Allen's play since the New England game in Week 4:

"He's a player that we have a lot of confidence in, and he's a young player that is continuing to develop and make adjustments at the early stages of his career, to build a real solid foundation. That's natural that progression. very few times do you come in and everyone's got it right from the start. Josh has done a heck of a job of just staying resilient, adjusting, growing, developing. That's what you want to see from young players, and in this case our quarterback, who's a young player. He's played extremely well over the course of the last few weeks, or more than that, and we have a lot of confidence in Josh."
