McDermott on Zay Jones: "He's still young in his career"

October 07, 2019 - 3:13 pm

Sean McDermott has the Bills at 4-1 heading into their Week 6 bye week. The Bills will come out of the bye with a favorable schedule, including three straight home games, with two against winless teams.

McDermott met with the media on Monday before heading off into the bye week, here's some of the best from his presser.

On the team's injuries building up:

"Give Brandon (Beane) and his staff credit with the depth. You see a guy like Duke (Williams) out there making the contributions he made, credit goes to Brandon's staff. And then the mental toughness of our football team, and the preparation of our football team, not just the starters, but the other guys that came in and stepped up. We may not win that game without them."

On getting lucky breaks this season:

"Our focus is really what happens inside these walls. Our focus is, one week at a time. Continuing to grow as a football team. That's all we can control. We're 4-1, a whisker away from being 5-0, but the fact is we're 4-1. With a lot of room for growth, a lot of good progress to this point in the season. A lot of good football that we've played."

On the timing of the bye week:

"Just like our schedule, we take the bye one day at a time whenever it comes. It comes at a good time, we've got some injuries right now as you guys have seen. Been able to sustain success early on... We came out of this game a little banged up, even more so banged up. We've got to get healthy, so it's a good time to get some rest."

On Zay Jones:

"He's just got to continue to do his job. You saw we made some plays at the wide receiver position. Zay's a guy that continues to grow. He's still young in his career. He'll continue to do a good job as he continues to grow, and focus on what he can control. I appreciate his team first approach yesterday."
