While Buffalo Sabres rookie forward Victor Olofsson was not named a finalist for the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year, the National Hockey League announced on Monday that he has been named to the league's All-Rookie Team for the 2019-20 season.

The 2020 Calder Trophy ended up being awarded to Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, while Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes finished second in voting and Chicago Blackhawks forward Dominik Kubalik finished third.

As for Olofsson, he ended up finishing seventh in voting for the Calder Trophy, falling behind players like New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox, Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins and New Jersey Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood.

Joining Olofsson and Kubalik at forward for the All-Rookie Team included Montreal Canadiens center Nick Suzuki, who finished in ninth place for voting for the Calder Trophy. Makar and Hughes were named to the All-Rookie Team on the blue line, while it was Merzlikins who earned the nod in goal.

The 25-year-old Olofsson had an impressive first season in the NHL in 2019-20. He was able to score 20 goals and register 22 assists for 42 points, and he finished fourth in league scoring among rookies. He was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for both the months of October and December, but suffered a significant ankle injury on Jan. 2 that forced him to miss 15 games.

If the 2019-20 season had been played to its full conclusion, Olofsson was on pace to score 25 goals and amass 27 assists for 52 points in 67 games.

Olofsson was a seventh round pick (181st overall) of the Sabres in the 2014 NHL Draft and made the jump to North America before the 2018-19 season. The native of Örnsköldsvik, Sweden is heading into the 2020 offseason as a restricted free agent.
