Pegula Sports & Entertainment increases footprint in Rochester

Terry and Kim Pegula announced on Thursday that they have been awarded an National Lacrosse League expansion franchise for the city of Rochester. The team will begin play for the 2019-2020 NLL season.

The Pegula-owned Rochester team will keep the name and legacy of the city's existing team, the Rochester Knighthawks. The current Rochester NLL franchise, owned by Canadian businessman Curt Styres, is moving operations to Halifax, Nova Scotia following this season. Pegula Sports & Entertainment will also remain the owner of the Buffalo Bandits, which they acquired as part of their purchase of the Buffalo Sabres. 

In addition to the announcement of the Pegulas' new lacrosse team in Rochester there were also several announcements regarding the future of the Blue Cross Arena, the home of the Knighthawks and Rochester Americans. As part of their continued investment in the Rochester sports landscape, Pegula Sports & Entertainment will install a brand new four-sided HD video scoreboard for this season. The video screens will be 10' wide and 16' tall and feature LED rings. 

Rochester mayor Lovely Warren announced the Blue Cross Arena has received additional investments from the New York State Senate and Assembly as well as PSE that totals $22 million. The arena will receive several additional upgrades in the future, including new locker rooms, concessions stands, restrooms, roof and improved audio visual equipment.
