Pominville-Eichel-Skinner is one of the best lines in hockey

Once upon a time, Jason Pominville was a young rookie winger piling up goals on a line with Daniel Briere and J.P. Dumont. Fast forward thirteen years later, he's piling up goals with two great young players in Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner. The line of Pominville-Eichel-Skinner has looked like the best line the Sabres have had in years since they were put together, but how do they rank around the NHL?

Since Pominville-Eichel-Skinner became a line, they have more points than any line in the NHL. Jeff Skinner is on pace for 49 goals, Pominville is on pace for 44 goals, and Jack Eichel would see his point total reach the nineties if this keeps up. It'll be a tough pace to reach, but getting 80% of the shots on goal when on the ice says solid production will continue.

Puck possession and shot generation metrics have the Sabre top line in the top tier of the NHL. Right with lines like Rantanen-Mackinnon-Landeskog, Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak, and Kessel-Malkin-Hagelin. Fans certainly like what they've seen from the Eichel line.

Looking into the future, the Sabres will have to make commitments to keep this line together long term. Both Skinner and Pominville will be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. Skinner will be looking for a big pay day, especially if he keeps this production up. If he wants to go to free agency he could be the best player this year to hit the market. He'll cost a lot to keep. Pominville on the other hand is on the final year of a $5.6 million a year deal at age 35. Even if Pominville's numbers have a big resurgence, he should cost a lot less to keep around and finish his career as a Buffalo Sabre.
