The Bills hit the field for the first of their mandatory three-day minicamp Tuesday, and the big story was quarterback Josh Allen finally getting a chance to play with the first-team offense in an 11-on-11 setting.  To this point, through ten OTAs, Allen had exclusively worked with the third-team.

Allen took a total of six snaps with the starting offense against the first unit defense, and all were passes.  After four shorter throws, he threw his signature pass of the day, rifling the ball about 15 yards downfield to Kelvin Benjamin, who was covered well.  But Allen put the ball in a spot where only the 6’ 5” Benjamin could get to it.  The wideout did just that, turning his body and climbing the ladder to haul it in.

But on the very next play, Allen showed a rookie mistake by trying to thread the needle on a simple curl route to tight end Charles Clay, who was standing between two defenders.  Safety Micah Hyde jumped in and got his hand on the ball.  After a ricochet, it bounced high in the air, allowing rookie linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to intercept it.

QB Nathan Peterman was the main QB with the starters throughout the practice and had a very good day.  He made several terrific passes, including two in a row where he had to drop the ball over a defender and into a wide receivers’ arms as he was running downfield or towards the sideline.

A.J. McCarron worked exclusively with the second-team throughout the day.

The starting offensive line was exactly the same as it was last Thursday when the media was allowed to watch practice:
LT Dion Dawkins, LG Vlad Ducasse, C Ryan Groy, RG John Miller, RT Jordan Mills.

The first-team defense was unchanged from it’s usual group.  Here was the second team defense:

Here’s who lined up as the SECOND team DEFENSE for the Bills today. Have to remember DE Trent Murphy isn’t taking part in any 11/11 right now and Matt Milano is out, so Ramon Humber is the WLB with the 1s. pic.twitter.com/YsATCcXLHt

Players who did not participate Tuesday: DT Tenny Palepoi (illness), WR Zay Jones (knee), TE Logan Thomas (knee), WR Malachi Dupre (hamstring), LB Matt Milano (hamstring).

DE Trent Murphy was limited.  He did not take part in any 11-on-11 work.  Players are required to attend these sessions and there were no unexcused absences.

Here are some videos from Tuesday:

I wrote last week WR Kelvin Benjamin is looking leaner and moving smoothly on the field. Here’s a little up close video of him. pic.twitter.com/tashCTRSEi
