Report: Sabres out on Todd McLellan, will continue coaching search

April 12, 2019 - 3:19 pm

After some rumors connecting the Buffalo Sabres with coach Todd McLellan, it seems as though the Sabres will go in a different direction in the search for a new head coach.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on Friday that McLellan is "no longer a consideration" for the Sabres head coaching job, and that the team will continue to look for their next bench boss.

Todd McLellan is no longer a consideration to be the head coach in BUF. The Sabres identified McLellan as a candidate and had some dialogue this week but an offer/deal was never formalized/finalized. The expectation is McLellan may be the next head coach in LA.

McLellan has been connected in reports with Buffalo and the Los Angeles Kings for their head coaching vacancies after the end of the season. However, Buffalo has seemingly backed off of the former San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers coach. With Buffalo's search to continue, it seems they still have plenty of candidates to work through.

McLellan was certainly a candidate in BUF but one of a number of candidates BUF had after firing Phil Housley. The Sabres are continuing their search process.

Buffalo is looking for, yet, another head coach after firing Phil Housley after just two seasons on the job.

Keep it locked to WGR and WGR550 for the latest on the Sabres' coaching search.
