Derek Kramer reporting

The San Jose Sharks may have given more good news to Buffalo Sabres fans in an offseason where Buffalo has won the draft lottery as well.

According to Irfaan Gaffar of Sportsnet, the Sharks have agreed to a deal to re-sign winger Evander Kane to a new contract.

Hearing the Sharks and Evander Kane have agreed to a long-term contract extension. Numbers may be in the 7-years 7-million per range.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN has also picked up on the report, saying that while the deal is not done, it looks as if it's a matter of time.

Deal isn't finalized quite yet, sources say, but all signs point towards a seven-year extension getting done for the pending UFA winger who has been a nice fit in San Jose. It will also mean that draft pick in the trade deadline deal becomes a first-rounder for Buffalo.

The Sabres traded Kane at the NHL Trade Deadline back in March to San Jose for winger Danny O'Regan and a conditional first round selection in 2019. The conditions for the pick to become a 2019 first rounder was either if the Sharks were to win the Stanley Cup or if Kane re-signs with the Sharks. San Jose was eliminated in the second round by the Vegas Golden Knights.
