Brandon Montour was eligible to head to salary arbitration this offseason as he went into the offseason as a restricted free agent.

However, the 26-year-old defenseman is instead re-signing with the Buffalo Sabres.

Montour could have been the fourth Sabres player to file for arbitration on Saturday along with forwards Sam Reinhart and Victor Olofsson, as well as goalie Linus Ullmark. However, he has signed a new one-year deal worth $3.85 million.

The Sabres acquired Montour from the Anaheim Ducks just before the 2019 NHL Trade Deadline and he put up some good numbers with three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 20 games.

This past season saw Montour struggle a bit in Ralph Krueger’s system as he ended up playing on the left side of the defense quite a bit. In 54 games, The right-handed shot defenseman scored just three goals and 13 assists for 18 point before the 2019-20 regular season was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Montour was originally a second round pick (55th overall) of the Ducks in the 2014 NHL Draft.
