The Buffalo Sabres weathered the storm in what was a lopsided second period of play, and emerged with their first win in Dallas, Texas since 2009. The blue and gold defeated the Stars 4-1 on Thursday night, thanks to timely goal-scoring from Jimmy Vesey, Rasmus Dahlin, newcomer Michael Frolik and Zemgus Girgensons.

Vesey got the scoring started in Texas, as he was the recipient of a nifty, no-look pass from Sam Reinhart. Reinhart skated through the slot, and dished the puck back against the grain to a streaking Vesey who tipped the puck past Ben Bishop from the right-hand side of the crease for the 1-0 Sabres lead. It was Vesey's sixth goal of the season; his first spent here in Buffalo.

On the play, Jack Eichel received a secondary assist. It was his only point of the night, but still extended his current point streak to a ninth game as his career season continued.

That was the only goal scored in the opening 20 minutes of play, as both teams traded chances. Neither side converted on their powerplay opportunities, as the Sabres and Stars each went 0-for-1 on their man advantages.

The Stars found their equalizer just 4:28 into the second frame, as captain Jamie Benn won a battle to grab a loose-puck rebound from Johan Larsson. Benn deposited it into a wipe-open net as Linus Ullmark was out of position after saving the initial shot sent his way.

Dallas turned up the pressure in a big way after they tied the contest. At one point late in the period, the home side was out-shooting Buffalo 14 to 1, and had a stranglehold on all such possession. The Sabres were able to withstand the constant pressure from the Stars, and took the lead once more with less than four minutes to go.

Rasmus Dahlin's wrist shot beat Bishop top-shelf and, despite the lacking effort in the shot department, Buffalo took that 2-1 lead into the third period of play inside American Airlines Center.

The Sabres quickly expanded their lead to three in rapid succession late in the third period, as again they stood pat against an unforgiving Stars attack. With the score still 2-1 advantage Buffalo, the blue and gold potted late empty-net goals courtesy of Frolik and Girgensons.

For Frolik, it was his first goal since joining the Buffalo Sabres. For the team, it was their first win against the Stars on the road since January of 2009.
