The Buffalo Sabres did not let the Detroit Red Wings beat them for the second in less than a week, taking a 3-2 win over Detroit on Tuesday night at Key Bank Center.

Sam Reinhart scored his 21st goal of the season to break the tie just 57 seconds into the third period to give Buffalo the lead for the first time in the game, as well as the lead for good. Carter Hutton did the rest in net, making 27 saves to help Buffalo to victory after giving up an early goal less than a minute

The Red Wings put the Sabres into a 1-0 hole before the fans could file into their seats, as Darren Helm found a puck that was nearly covered up by Hutton and tucked it into the net to give Detroit the lead just 27 seconds into the game. However, Buffalo would tie it up almost as quickly as Detroit opened the scoring. Conor Sheary scored 36 seconds after Detroit's opening goal. Sheary's tally was his 8th of the season to help Buffalo tie it up at 1 goal apiece.

The second period was off to almost as fast of a start, as Sheary drew a penalty on a scoring chance to draw a penalty shot opportunity. However, Sheary's opportunity was high and missed the net. Detroit got another goal from Helm, as the veteran winger potted his second of the game to help the Red Wings reclaim the lead, 2-1. However, the Sabres once again were able to even up the game, this time courtesy of Macus Johansson. Rasmus Dahlin left a drop pass to his fellow Swede on the rush and Johansson sniped it into the net to even up the game, 2-2.

Once the third period got started, it didn't take long for Buffalo to take their first and only lead of the game. Sam Reinhart scored 57 seconds into the third period to make 3-2 for Buffalo, as a point shot from Henri Jokiharju was fired wide, and the puck was put on net by Jack Eichel before being finished off by Reinhart. The Red Wings would put up considerable pressure in the third period, outshooting Buffalo 10-5 in the final 20 minutes and creating several dangerous chances shorthanded that Hutton had to make strong saves on to presever the lead and seal up the win.
