Sabres' Eichel nominated for the King Clancy Award

(WGR 550) - The Sabres have nominated Jack Eichel for the King Clancy Trophy. That trophy is awarded “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

In a release, the league outlined the criteria:

  • Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
  • Investment of time and resources
  • Commitment to a particular cause or community
  • Commitment to the League’s community initiatives (Hockey is for Everyone, Hockey Fights Cancer, Future Goals, Learn to Play, NHL Green, etc.)
  • Creativity of programming
  • Use of influence; engagement of others

Former Sabre Ryan O'Reilly was nominated by the St. Louis Blues. 

Rob Ray won the trophy in 1999. He is the only Sabre to win the award.
