The Buffalo Sabres battled hard on Wednesday night, but could only manage one point against the Calgary Flames.

The visitors won in overtime inside KeyBank Center by a final score of 3-2.  Forward Elias Lindholm scored the game-winner.

The Flames grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first period.  With 17:55 gone in the opening frame, defenseman T.J. Brodie took a shot from the point that trickled ever-so lightly past Linus Ullmark.  On the play, Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan received assists.

Through 20-minutes of play, Buffalo held a 9-8 shot advantage and began to come alive after totaling just two shots in the first eight-minutes of action.

The Sabres were able to tie the game up at one goal apiece about six-and-a-half minutes into the middle period.  After their Monday night hiccups against the Lightning wherein they allowed a pair of shorthanded goals, they got one of their own this night courtesy of Jimmy Vesey.

Vesey was sprung free on Buffalo's penalty kill by Rasmus Asplund, and Vesey beat Calgary goalie David Rittich on the forehand for his second goal of the season, and second in as many contests this week.  With the lone assist on the shorthanded tally, Asplund recorded his first point in the National Hockey League as well.

With the game still tied 1-1 early in the third period, the Sabres' top line went to work.  Two minutes had not yet gone by before Victor Olofsson buried the go-ahead goal.  His ninth of the season flew by Rittich and gave Buffalo a 2-1 advantage.  The goal extended Olofsson's point streak to five games; it too extended Jack Eichel's active point streak in the process.  The captain's primary helper, his 17th assist in 2019-20, gave him points in seven straight.

The Flames wasted no time evening the score once more, though.  Less than two minutes later, forward Matthew Tkachuk jammed a loose puck past Ullmark for his 11th goal of the campaign.

That 2-2 score would hold through 60-minutes of play as the two teams headed for an overtime period in downtown Buffalo.

Then, just 77-seconds into the extra frame, Elias Lindholm dropped the curtain on the Sabres as the Flames forward won the game in sudden-death overtime.  Calgary attained the victory point and won 3-2 in KeyBank Center.
