Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - The Sabres have made an upgrade in goal as they’ve signed Carter Hutton to a reported three-year/$8.25 million deal.

Hutton will only count $2.75 million against the salary cap when many felt he would get $4 million per year.

Hutton has been described to me as an excellent guy in the room and he’ll share the goaltending duties with Linus Ullmark.

Hutton comes cheaper and is an upgrade from Robin Lehner. Hutton started his NHL career in Chicago and then went to Nashville and St. Louis. In 137 NHL games, Hutton is 63-39-17 with a 2.42 goals against average and .915 save percentage.

Last year he took over for the Blues when Jake Allen slumped. Hutton posted a career high .931 save percentage in 32 games.

Hutton has never played more than 40 games in the NHL and will split time with Ullmark.
