It looks like the Buffalo Sabres are bringing back a retro look with a current twist ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Adidas, who is the official producer of uniforms for the National Hockey League, released a teaser video on Tuesday on their Adidas Hockey page featuring a line of jerseys to come for all 31 teams for the 2020-21 season. This line of jerseys to be featured this season are being called the "Reverse Retro" line.

At the 16-second mark of the video, it features, what appears to be, the color scheme for the Sabres' edition of their "Reverse Retro" uniform with the No. 00. It is a white jersey with royal blue trim, and also featuring a gold outline on the numbers.

While Adidas did not show the front of the jersey or what it could look like in the teaser video, there is one key detail that could be an indication of what we could see with Buffalo's uniform.

All of the numbers featured on the uniforms in the video indicate the year in which the "Reverse Retro" uniforms will honor the jersey first worn by each team.

For the Sabres, the No. 00 is for the year 2000, where the team introduced its alternate red uniforms with the double-crossed Sabres logo on the crest. Today, this jersey is commonly referred to as the "butterknives" jersey.

It is not known yet if the Sabres will use the same template of the uniform from 2000 to 2006 or if it will look similar, but more details of this alternate jersey will reportedly come out some time later this month.

Earlier this offseason, the Sabres officially made the switch back to royal blue after making a change to its red, black and silver concept following the 1995-96 season when the team moved from the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium to its current home at KeyBank Center. The Sabres did return to a blue and gold concept back in 2006, but the blue was a navy blue instead of its old "royal blue".

There are two other teams with blue and gold color concepts, but none of the years that were teased in the Adidas video line up with the Sabres.

The St. Louis Blues appear with the No. 95 attached to the team in the teaser, which is when they released a new uniform featuring more red with its jersey.

As for the Nashville Predators, the No. 98 is attached with the team to signal its inaugural season in the NHL.

The NHL has yet to announce a start date for the 2020-21 season, but is still targeting a Jan. 1, 2021 start date as of now.
