Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Tage Thompson's season is over.

The winger had to have shoulder surgery after being hurt on Nov. 17 in Chicago.

In the beginning, the Sabres were trying to avoid surgery through rehab, but as it went on, they realized it had to happen. Before Thompson could have the surgery, he needed to continue his rehab and strengthen the area around it to get it ready. Other opinions were sought out, but in the end, surgery had to be the option.

Thompson's recovery time will be five-to-six months.

The Blackhawks game was the only NHL game Thompson played with Buffalo this season.

In 16 games with Rochester, the big winger had six goals and six assists for 12 points.
