Three Weeks Until Bills Training Camp, Three Questions on the Bills

The Buffalo Bills are three weeks away from training camp at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Fresh off of breaking a 17-year playoff drought that was a dark cloud over the franchise, the Bills head into the 2018 season with similarly low expectations like they were given last year, when they finished 9-7.

This season's team has plenty of questions surrounding their roster, but in the spirit of three weeks until training camp, here are three pressing questions on the Bills heading into the 2018 season:

1.) WHOSDAQ?

"Who's the quarterback, though?" Come on, everyone knows this was going to be the top question surrounding the Bills. The Bills head to St. John Fisher College with a three headed quarterback group of free agent addition AJ McCarron, last year's backup Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen. McCarron is the favorite, as the former backup in Cincinnati to Andy Dalton. Peterman, in his second year, may be the most polarizing of the group after throwing 5 interceptions in the first half of his first career start. Allen, selected seventh overall by the Bills in 2018, is seen by some as a project that would be best served sitting out some time to start the season. Throughout OTA's and mini camp, McCarron and Peterman have been splitting first team reps, with Allen mostly on the third team while getting some snaps with the starters.

2.) Replacing some big names - and bodies - on the offensive line

The retirement of center Eric Wood, the release of guard Richie Incognito and the trade of tackle Cordy Glenn have left the Bills without three of their most consistent offensive linemen from last season's roster. With the left tackle position, the Bills think they have their answer in second year tacle Dion Dawkins, who started 11 games for the injured Glenn last year and held his own. As for the center and left guard spots, there are several players who can take the roles. At center, the versatile Ryan Groy and free agent addition Russell Bodine are fighting for the starting spot. At guard, John Miller is looking to bounce back after losing his spot to Vlad Ducasse last year. Miller has some competition in Groy and rookie Wyatt Teller.

3.) Who helps wake up the pass rush?

Buffalo's defense was a large reason for their success in breaking the playoff drought, with a break-but-don't-bend defense that thrived off of turnovers. However, one part of the defense that was very underwhelming was the defensive line, more importantly the lack of a pass rush from their front four. With a group of defensive ends that didn't have much depth, Jerry Hughes was given a lot of attention and only tallied 4 sacks. The Bills added Trent Murphy in free agency and Shaq Lawson has seemingly found a new drive to succeed in the NFL. If Murphy and Lawson can assist Hughes and create a rotation, and the Bills new defensive tackles in Star Lotulelei and Harrison Phillips can help Kyle Williams with pressure up the middle, the Bills won't have to rely on the timely blitzing to create a majority of their pressure.
